A Sociological Analysis of Rezif Marine Ritual in Bandar Kong

The study of popular culture through various media like poetry, fiction, music, beliefs, apothegm, and especially social rituals seems to be possible. The recognition and analysis of the traditional rituals pave the way for understanding the masses worldview in any age and country. Rezif dance is one of the old rituals of the coastal people of Hormozgan especially Bandar-Kong, which is one of the important ports in the history of Iran's maritime. The mentioned ritual has been of particular importance in the celebrations and the festivals throughout several centuries. Based on Emile DurKheim's sociological theories and through the cultural semiotics methodology, the present paper attempts to describe the types of movements andthe music,and also to analyze the elements and the constituent social functions of this ritual.The results show that the rituals are very important and helpful in forming the collective conscience and maintaining the social solidarity in order to make the society continuea useful and productive life.
