The advent of modernity has been parallel to the disruption of patriarchal core families. The result of this process can be seen in the atomization of the families. Yet this process lacks the mental and objective backgrounds. That’s why there is a threat that the family institution might not be able to perform its essential roles properly. Taking this into consideration, it seems utterly urgent to discuss family, its place and performance.
Nezami Ganjavi’s verse has narratives that deal with the issue of family. In his works, family has been depicted as patriarchal, extensive, monogamous and free from member association.
Using content-analysis and thematic analysis, the present study tries to intertextually investigate family in the Ganjavi’s verse and demonstrate family’s different roles and performances within the text.
